On Tuesday, city commissioners in Millville, NJ, voted to block data centers from being built in the city, killing a proposed 2.6 million-square-foot data center. This proposal was the largest data center proposal in New Jersey.
Multiple community organizations, including CRAN (Climate Revolution Action Network) and Sustain SJ, have been actively encouraging residents to voice their concerns about data center development during city meetings. Advocates from these organizations have voiced issues regarding the impact on the local communities and the transparency of the projects.
The ordinance banning data centers in Millville comes as residents and community activists continue to protest the ongoing construction of a 2.6 million square foot data center in Vineland.
The Vineland Planning Board is preparing for a special meeting regarding the second phase of the Vineland DataOne Data Center on May 28th.
